Torchwood-heavy rantage post
So, if you don't watch Torchwood, you will probably not understand what I'm talking about. If you haven't seen Children of Earth and are planning to, don't read this, it will contain spoilers.
I get the feeling it's going to turn into a rant-about-RTD post, so if you want to read that and don't care about CoE, feel free.
I think that's all...
Dear Torchwood, RTD, actors, fans, fandom, whom it may concern:
What. The fucking hell. Was that.
Torchwood is the show that got me into Doctor Who in the first place. It was the first thing I ever saw in the Whoniverse, and the reason I bought it, pretty much, is that a friend described the Ianto/Jack sex scene in the 2nd season to me, and it sounded very lulzy. (Also, it was the cheapest thing in the Whoniverse on the shelves of Best Buy, but that's not important)
What is important is that in the last few episodes of Torchwood you killed off EVERYONE, RTD and writers of Torchwood! Except for Gwen (what is she, Torchwood's Rose?) and Jack, who can't die anyway. And you're planning to have 4 more seasons or something like that? I can tell you right now, it ain't gonna happen, not after the shit you pulled with Ianto! What is it with you, RTD? Why does everyone have to be FUCKING MISERABLE AT THE END OF EVERY SEASON! That isn't drama. That isn't good writing, it's just making everyone cry! And not in a good, cathartic way, it's just making us sob our little fan-person eyes out FOR NO FUCKING REASON. Or else it's making us angry.
With Donna's end, I cried so hard. With Ianto, I'm just PISSED. I always liked him, even when he was being all angsty and sad about Lisa. But then he started going out with Jack, and that just made me love him. And then you made him a BAMF, which really should have been my first clue that something was coming. AND THEN YOU KILLED HIM, YOU BASTARD. It was a useless death, too! I mean, even Owen got taken out saving the city, and Tosh died helping him, but Ianto? No, you just kill him, no reason. You could have sent him with Rhys, you could have left him with Gwen, you could have sent him to do some vital task that only he could do in some other part of the city. But no. Jack has to be MISERABLE at the end of the episode, because you have to do that. Every single season ending everyone has been miserable in Doctor Who, why should it be different for Torchwood?
And that thing with his grandson...that was completely unnecessary.
I've noticed this with you, RTD...you write yourself into a corner with TOTALLY EPIC PLOTS, and then you have to get out of them in a way that usually tends to involve waterskis and a sharkTinkerbell Jebus Doctor, anyone?
Speaking of that, I just wanted to discuss a few other episodes with you...these are from Doctor Who.
Actually, the only one I really have a problem with is Midnight. I know many other people seem to think this is a good episode. I can't see it. What is good about this episode? They say it shows how people act in a crisis. You could have made them behave as people SHOULD, imho of course, act in a crisis! That is, keep their heads. Do something USEFUL. Actually work with the Doctor, instead of CONDEMNING HIM TO DEATH.
Instead, you seemed to use the episode as an excuse to scare the Doctor, almost to death. You leave him completely helpless, in the face of something no one knows anything about, and the only reason he gets out of it is some random Hostess lady nobly gives her life to save his. And hey, two birds with one stone, more things to make the Doctor feel miserable about! Yay!
In short, I didn't like this episode. It was COMPLETELY FUCKING USELESS. The only way I will like this episode even a tiny bit is if this is what turns out to be coming back in 10's last few episodes. If not...yeah, I think my feelings on this matter are clear.
Finally, please stop bringing the bloody Daleks back, or if you do, STOP SAYING THEY'RE COMPLETELY DEAD NOW. Yes, they did that a bit in the Classic episodes, BUT NOT EVERY FUCKING TIME. I would seriously have no problem with the Daleks if you didn't have to go to such lengths to bring them back every fucking time.
Also, LEAVE ROSE IN THE FUCKING PARALLEL UNIVERSE. SHE'S GOT HANDY!TEN. SHE'S FINE. THE WALLS BETWEEN THE UNIVERSES CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE CROSSINGS, OK?
Torchwood is dead to me now. RTD can die in whatever manner is most painful. This was just awful, I don't know what RTD was on when he said fans were going to love this.
This makes me dread what is going to happen in the next few specials with the Doctor. And I hope The Moff doesn't pull shit like this when he becomes the head writer, or I may just have to stop watching Doctor Who altogether.
