Knitting the 13th's scarf

So for this scarf I am knitting sideways! Which is pretty exciting as I've never done that before. That is to say, I've cast on enough stitches to (hopefully) be the full length of the finished scarf and I'm going to switch out colors to get the stripes as I go.

Needles: I am using size 7 (4.5mm) needles with an adjustable cord attached to let me have the full length of the scarf on my needles. For this attempt I have cast on 220 stitches, separated every 20 stitches by yarn markers (I'm using paperclips).

Yarn: I am using 100% cotton yarn. This yarn feels a bit rough but supposedly once I wash it it will become plush and soft. The brands I am using are Sugar'n Cream (SC), Peaches&Creame (PC), and DeLux (DL) because of color issues, but the weight, gauge, and general look of the yarn seems to be consistent across brands.

Pink: Hot Pink (SC) - cast-on + knit two rows
Blue: Hot Blue (SC) - knit 30 rows. I will measure the width of this broad stripe later, for now I just sort of knitted until I thought it looked correct.
Navy blue: Bright Navy (SC) - knit 6 rows
Light blue: Beach Glass (SC) - knit 6 rows
Dark blue/green: Indigo (SC) - knit 6 rows
Light teal: Seaspray (DL) - knit 4 rows
Green: Teal (SC) - I also have Forest Green (PC) for this but I'm using the teal for this particular scarf. - knit 6 rows
Green-gold: Rosemary (PC) - knit 2 rows
Yellow: Gold (DL) - knit 10 rows
Orange: Bright Orange (PC) - knit 2 rows
Red-orange: Red (SC) - knit 4 rows
Fuchsia: Fresh Lilac (PC) - knit 2 rows
Purple: Purple (DL) - knit 6 rows
Red: Coral Rose (SC) - knit three rows, cast off.

Okay so I got tired of waiting and basically bought the closest thing I could find in the physical stores near me. I think this will still get the intent across the way it should look, but I will in the future get better colors online... for now, though, I'm going with this.

The more I look at this the more I feel like the blue I used here is not the best color for the main blue of this scarf. I am making a new scarf now, and have bought a slightly darker blue, Blueberry.

Scarf take two!

I gave the first scarf to my girlfriend, who seems to love it. I am using mostly the same colors as I did for the first one, including the Teal rather than Green; I am making this scarf much longer, at 300 stitches cast-on instead of 220.

Pink: Hot Pink (SC) - cast-on + knit two rows
Blue: Blueberry (SC) - knit 30 rows. I want this scarf to be nice and broad, so I will knit this until it looks right even if that's wider or narrower than 30 rows.
Navy blue: Bright Navy (SC) - knit 6 rows
Light blue: Beach Glass (SC) - knit 6 rows
Dark blue/green: Indigo (SC) - knit 6 rows
Light teal: Seaspray (DL) - knit 4 rows
Green: Teal (SC) - knit 6 rows
Green-gold: Rosemary (PC) - knit 2 rows
Yellow: Gold (DL) - knit 10 rows
Orange: Bright Orange (PC) - knit 2 rows
Red-orange: Red (SC) - knit 4 rows
Fuchsia: Fresh Lilac (PC) - knit 2 rows
Purple: Purple (DL) - knit 6 rows
Red: Coral Rose (SC) - knit three rows, cast off.
